Wombat ICU
The drought affects us too
Sarcoptic Mange

Wombat Intensive Care Unit

The Wombat Awareness Organisation is the only organisation in the world specialising in the rescue and rehabilitation of Southern Hairy Nosed Wombats. Prior to WAO's establishment in South Australia, there have been few relief efforts in times of drought or Sarcoptic Mange out-breaks.

WAO has successfully rehabilitated over 200 wombats over the past 12 months of operation. The urgency of suitable facilities for emergency, intensive and recovery care was obvious. We treat wombats with mange, emaciation from the drought, victims of illegal culling attempts, vehicular accidents and orphans from indigenous communities.

Thanks to the founding directors of WAO, Bob and Judy Irwin and conservationist Kenton Campbell the Wombat ICU came to fruition.

Bob will officially open the facility in June.
