Wombat Rehabilitation Centre

The directors of WAO have purchased 112 acres in the Murraylands, SA as a site for the first centre specifically established just for wombats!

Initially, our dream was to create a paradise for our beloved crippled (now healed thanks to being in the perfect environment!) Southern Hairy Nosed Wombat 'Barney'. Once we arrived, we became horrified at the amount of wombats needing care and how little resources or facilities there are available for these animlas.

Our focus then became to save what animals we could and to be of assistance to farmers and local residents that were doing what they could to help save the individuals.

We have been overwhelmed with both wombats and enquiries and have endeavoured to help each and every one to the best of our ability.

The need to establish a 'Wombat Rehabilitation Centre' featuring a Sarcoptic Mange and Rescue Unit, Hospital, Intensive Care, Nursery, Pre-release and Permanent Housing Facility is almost overwhelming as more wombats arrive needing care and impress us with such an ability to heal and accept help.

The Wombat Rehabilitation Centre will cater for all and every wombat from the orphaned, ill and injured to the unwanted and unreleasable and will provide vital information to assist in the recovery and protection of the species.

Site of our 'Wombat Rehabilitation Centre'. First enclosure is 2.5 acres!
